Online Poker going to be legalized in the United States?
by Jack on Aug.21, 2010, under Blog
First off, playing online poker in the United States is NOT illegal. What is illegal (although the details are diluted) is depositing money from an online poker site into a bank account in the U.S. However, if you simply do this via check, the ridiculous law is almost impossible to enforce.
In case you aren’t aware, a bill to legalize and tax online poker made an important advancement by passing the House Financial Services Committee, this is huge news. Of course, it is now being passed on to congress, but all hope is not lost. There’s talk of a lame duck session, meaning nothing will be passed until after the midterm elections, but that doesn’t mean it won’t be passed, it just means we might have to wait a little longer.
Let’s face reality, the United States is in financial turmoil and legalizing online poker completely and taxing it would bring in billions of dollars of revenue. I, for one, see it happening sometime in the not so distant future. What do you guys think? Here’s a link to the full ABC article, who of course is trying to put their best negative spin on everything:
